Myth, Multitudes, and Matter
Yoga and Biodiversity Retreat with Whale and Sea Life Excursion
February 21 – Feb 28, 2020 in Barra de Potosí, Mexico
Biodiversity awaits you – the Multiverse is all around us! Come on a whale research excursion with scientists, relax on the beach with the herons and pelicans, take a day trip for a surf or explore the simple fishing village.
I’ll be leading daily yoga sessions over the duration of our trip (with the exception of excursion day), and daily outdoor meditations. Our yoga will be infused with contemplations on multiplicity in myth, diversity in matter, and the ways we weave our personal ecologies into the distinct forms and expressions of our lives. All you need to do is arrive.
Beautiful Barra de Potosí
Barra de Potosí is is nestled at the southern end of Playa Larga beach in the greater Playa Blanca region. It’s a 20 minute drive from the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa airport.
This traditional, simple fishing village, located on the section of the Pacific coast known as the Mexican Riviera for its beautiful beaches, is famous for its multitudes! This little beach side hamlet boasts egrets and pelicans, tortoises and dolphins, mangroves and coconut palms and papaya trees. The beautiful photo below is a link to an article published in Oregon Live a couple of years ago detailing the vast offerings of this very special and widely unknown destination.

Whale and Sea Life Excursion
And here’s the best part:
In addition to the multiplicity on shore – there is the multiplicity teaming just beneath the surface of the sea, and we have been invited to interact with that world firsthand. In the community of Barra de Potosi Mexico, something very new is evolving in support of all that’s ancient and enduring. Whale research and documentation projects are helping this community transition from a fishing economy to an ecotourism economy – one which will protect and preserve the local sea life, enrich and empower the local citizenry, and safeguard the cultural flavor of the region. What an astonishing yoga this is! An engagement of diverse currents in service of expansion of the life force on multiple levels!
And we are very lucky to have the opportunity to learn about and experience this work from a front row seat. An excursion on a research vessel is built into our time together (although your participation is optional). On this unique oceanic biodiversity adventure, we’ll accompany an international team of researchers and local fisherman on a day in the life of saving their coastal home. We may see sea turtles, manta rays, dolphins, or even the whales themselves!
We may also get the chance to release tortoise hatchlings, and protect them from predators as they make their way across the sand and into the sea. This depends entirely on the cooperation of the hatchlings, but so far we have been lucky enough to experience this every year.

Retreat Details
This 6 day retreat will take place from Feb 21st through Feb 28the, beginning with dinner on Feb 21rd, and ending with our beach bonfire on the 27th. Fly in and out of Ixtapa / Zihuatanejo Feb 21st and Feb 28th, unless of course you’d like to extend your stay in Mexico.
Each day will include meditation practice and ample free time. There will be yoga classes offered five out of the six days. The remaining day will be reserved for the Sea Life excursion in the morning, and whatever else you can dream up in the afternoon.
Throughout the week you will have the opportunity to get to know the surrounding village and its people, or travel to one of the larger towns nearby. Participants in the The Myths, Multitudes and Matter Yoga and Biodiversity Retreat will be invited to nestle in to the warm embrace of beautiful Mexico as an extension of our practices of awareness and engagement.

Where We’re Staying:
We’ll be lodging at the simple but elegant Villa Don Manuel. Our wonderful hosts Claudia and Toby prepare outstanding meals in an exquisite setting.
Rooms are double occupancy. I will pair you with another retreat participant – let me know if there’s someone else signing up that you’d like to room with. If you are coming with a romantic partner, sign up soon and secure a king size bed!

Payment Information
The cost for lodging with daily brunch, four course dinners, Yoga and meditation instruction and practice, Farewell fiesta on the beach, monetary contributions to sea life conservation, possible turtle hatchling release and your whale research excursion on the sea is $1125.
Because I work directly with Mexican vendors, I am able to keep the price of the retreat very low, and you get the satisfaction of knowing you are supporting the village economy directly. And a portion of your retreat fees goes directly to Whale and Tortoise research and conservation efforts in the Playa Blanca region!
I’ve found most students don’t bother with lunch on practice days (brunch is more than satisfying), but just to be safe you could add another $200 or so for lunches at the palapas or in the village, taxis, and walking-around money.
Use the Zihuatanejo airport. If you’re traveling from Portland I recommend Alaska Airlines – they make one trip daily with a stop in LA. With enough lead time, you should be able to get a flight for $700 or less.
To register:
At this time, the B&B is at capacity. If you would like to join the retreat, contact me directly to make altarnate lodging arrangements. Any additional students will still be dining and practicing and going on the boat with the goup – just walking a little bit further from bed to the yoga palapa.
Please make sure I have a valid email address, so that we may be in contact before we arrive in beautiful Mexico!
Easy peasy!
Read more about the biodiversity of the Playa Blanca region here, and also here, and about the village of Barra de Potosi here, and here. And as always, feel free to contact me to make alternate payment arrangements, or with any questions, anytime!
I hope you can come!
