This event has Passed! We plan on having Douglas back int he fall of 2015 – stay tuned!

Yippee! Douglas Brooks will be Back in Portland this Fall!

Last time Douglas was here, he gave us a rich look at Shiva Nataraja’s dance in the pine forest, the rich story which is pivotal to so many yoga traditions. We found Patanjali there, to whom the Yoga Sutras are attributed, and Viaghra Pada, “Tiger Paws,” from whom the house holder lineage mythically springs.

This year he will be speaking to the next chapter in the story, that of the Sapta Tandava, or seven dances, and the theory of the rasas, yoga’s flavors of existence that penetrate all aspects of human experience.

Here are some words from Douglas on what he is planning for us:

The Core of Feeling: Tracing the Path of Consciousness

“Deep inside us the core of consciousness resonates as feelings, the primal emotions that cut to the very heart of our being and begin the process of autobiography that is Self. In our extended sense of Self, we have mapped these feelings into our awareness of the world, into memories and language, into the social and cultural expressions of our humanity.

In this seminar we will learn the basic and foundational study called the rasas, trace the maps from core to extended consciousness, and place the theory of rasa within the image of the dancing Shiva as Seven Dances. This remarkable mythology creates a forest of feelings and perceptions that take us into the heart of awareness from our own unconscious sources. NO previous experience is expected or required. Bring an open mind, a wiling heart, and your playful imagination.
