Clear Seeing, Clear Speaking
Oct 23 – 26, 2015 at The People’s Yoga
At its heart, teaching is a conversation.
The art of teaching is the art of that conversation and is distinct from the knowledge or skill being taught.
As yoga teachers, we hear what students are telling us by seeing them. Their bodies, and the way they move, are requests to which we respond with class plans and pose instructions. Their responses, in form and movement, tell us where we need to rethink or refine our cues, offer verbal or physical assists, or show what we are saying with demonstrations.
This 30 hour mini-training for yoga teachers will focus on the bones of the teacher/student dialogue: pose instruction and pose observation.
From hour one, Alison will employ you in the position of co-trainer through guided feedback sessions and small and large group practicum. In our time together we will build, rebuild and fine tune our pose instructions with an emphasis on conciseness and clarity, and inquire into the art of discerning what our students’ bodies are trying to tell us.
Honing these deceptively simple skills can dramatically boost the impact of your teaching cues and verbal assists, and are the heart and soul of a transformative yoga class.
